California canary grass, Phalaris californica

The largest population grows in a seep several hundred yards south of Trail 3 on the northeast side of the ridge near the sandstone/serpentine contact (Area C). Beautiful purple-tinted flower heads bloom May-June among a great swath (for Jasper Ridge) of Carex serratodens and Stachys pychnantha.
